Carol J. Dempsey, OP, Ph.D. is Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Portland, OR. She holds a BA from Caldwell College, NJ, an MA from St. Louis University, MO, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Carol is an award-winning author of 8 books, the latest of which include The Bible and Literature (2015, Orbis Books); Amos, Hosea, Micah, Nahum, Zephaniah, Habakkuk (2013, Liturgical Press). She is also the editor of 10 books. Carol also serves on the editorial boards for the new Wisdom Commentary Series, the new Paulist Press Bible Commentary, Theology in Dialogue series, and the Catholic Biblical Quarterly. She is currently working on two commentaries on Isaiah. The former Vice-President of the National College Theology Society and the recipient of the University of Portland’s Outstanding Scholarship Award, Carol has published numerous articles in the area of prophets, biblical theology, ecology, biblical ethics, and gender studies in scholarly journals as well as in scholarly books of collected essays. She has delivered more than 70 scholarly papers at national and international professional conferences. Carol is an international lecturer for both scholarly and pastoral audiences. She is a Dominican Sister from Caldwell, NJ.
